Fast and Easy Luv Bug Removal

It’s Luv Bug season again. We wanted to share a simple, quick way to remove those pesky critters from your car without damaging the paint. The new car finishes are not designed to withstand the acid of the bugs or the chemicals of a spray product such as Pam. In some cases, the clear coats are thinner and can be damaged easier.

The best way to remove Luv Bugs is to keep a bucket filled with water and a few drops of mild dishwashing detergent or your favorite car wash solution in your garage with a couple big towels that will fit across the front of your car and the windshield areaand a couple of hand towel sized one for the side mirrors in the garage. When you come home covered in bugs, park in the driveway, then dip the towels into the bucket of water, wring out slightly and lay the damp towels across your warm hood and windshield for about 15 minutes but no longer than 30 minutes. Set a kitchen timer or your cell phone so you don’t forget to come back out. When you come out, the bugs will be soft and easy to remove with a car wash sponge or wash mitt, then rinse off with a water hose. No pressure washer needed.

The best preventive measure is to wax your car just before each bug season (March and August)with a good quality car polish. This gives the car a protective finish to keep the bugs from damaging your paint. Pam, baby oil, etc. will collect sand and then dry and you have a bigger problem. A good quality wax or polish is a better long term protection for your car’s finish.
